Volunteer Opportunities

Animal lovers wanted – no experience necessary! Whether you prefer to work with pets or people, we need your passion and unique talents.

In Shelter Volunteering
Morning Cleaning

Volunteers come to the shelter and assist the staff with daily tasks and working with animals. Most onsite positions are between the hours of 11am – 3 pm Wed-Sun with the exception of morning cleaning Mon-Sun 9 am -12 pm.

Assist staff with cleaning/feeding duties for cats prior to public hours. Ready the shelter for visitors, adopters, and incoming pets. Tasks include sweeping, mopping, scooping litter boxes, cleaning cat condos, washing dishes and laundry.

Dog Walking / Socializing

Walk dogs on leash on the grounds surrounding the shelter, play with them in our fenced exercise yard. Provide training and socialization to help our dogs thrive and increase adoptability. Must be 18 years or older to work with dogs. Younger volunteers can walk with an older volunteer.

Dog Shelter
  • How old do you have to be to volunteer?
Any age, but if you are under 16, you must have a guardian with you.
  • How old do you have to be to walk dogs?
You must be 18 years old to physically hold a leash and walk a dog. Someone underage can accompany a legal adult (like a parent/guardian).
  • Do I have to sign up for a set schedule?
No. Due to our small size we do not require you to schedule ahead. However, it is very helpful to know who comes on what days, if possible. A set schedule is preferred, but not required.
  • Suppose I can only volunteer for one hour a week?
This is fine; we do not have a minimum time requirement.
  • Does CASA offer court-ordered community service?
Please note that court-ordered community service cannot be accommodated through this volunteer program; please speak with the courts or your counselor for other possible volunteer opportunities.
  • Do I have to pass a background check?
Background checks are required for in-shelter volunteers. CASA utilizes the Washington State Patrol WATCH system.

Foster

Foster

Our dedicated volunteer foster families save lives every time they open their homes and hearts to a homeless animal. Fostering is an excellent opportunity to care for a pet without a long-term adoption commitment.

Foster care can include animals who require extra love and support before becoming available for adoption. This can include animals such as puppies, medical cases, pets who need socialization or behavior modification, pregnant cats, nursing mothers, and orphaned kittens.  Foster homes are most needed during kitten season.  CASA often receives many litters of kittens at a time.  These kittens would much prefer waiting in a loving CASA foster home until they are old enough for adoption.

We Provide:

- Support from a full-time foster team

 - Full-service veterinary care to handle medical needs

- All necessary supplies (food, litter, treats, bowls, litter box, etc.)
