SURGERY IS SUCCESSFUL

Tom keeps his leg

UPDATE: Feb 10 2011................................................................................

Tom's surgery went well! Thank you to all of the vets who took the time to look over Tom and his records and give their thoughts and opinions. Thank you especially to Dr. O`Rourke at the Animal Care Center for helping CASA and ultimately helping Tom make this next step in his life. We would never be able to help animals like Tom without the help of others! Tom has settled back in to life at CASA. He will be spending his time back in our quiet isolation room in a large kennel. He will be on "bed rest" for a while. His next appointment will be a follow up and dressing replacement with Dr. O`Rourke. We will keep you posted on his progress.

While Dr. O`Rourke was working his magic he also took the time to clean up a bit of Tom's arthritic areas. Tom found an angel in Dr. O`Rourke, now he will just need an angel to adopt him when he is healed.

Oh, and Tom wanted us to tell everyone he is accepting get well cards which may be mailed directly to him at the shelter. (that funny boy!)

UPDATE: Feb 2 2011................................................................................

After a little extra time and hope we got a second opinion on Tom. They took another X-ray and felt that he healed more and would now be a candidate for fusing the damaged bone together with a plate. The specialist felt this would be better for Tom in the long run, he is a senior and still having 4 legs would clearly be best for him. Tom is having his surgery on Wednesday Feb 9th. We are all hopeful for Tom and a good outcome for him. He could not have made it to this point without the generous gifts and good thoughts from his fans.

UPDATE: Jan 8 2011................................................................................

H huge "Thank You" for all the support you have shown for Tom. Not only was his goal met, but after finding out it was already met people continued to want to donate for his after-care. Tom will be having surgery very soon, we will keep you posted!

UPDATE: Dec 19 2010...............................................................................

Thanks to the generous donations from some of Tom's fans he is really close to his goal! We are planning to schedule his surgery for right after the holiday. This way the CASA staff will be around to pamper him and make sure he stays comfortable right after recovery. If you are interested in fostering Tom during his rehab period and are comfortable medicating a cat, please contact the shelter. We know a round the clock home environment would be best for him if there is someone willing to care for him.

Thank you for your support!

.................................................................................

Tom's surgery will cost a pretty penny and CASA is raising funds for the full amputation of his damaged rear leg. Our fundraising goal for the surgery is $850. Please think about Tom this Holiday season, he needs your help! You can donate right here online by clicking the "donate now " paypal icon to the right. You can also mail donations in, or stop by the shelter where we can issue you a receipt in person.

Thank you for your support

UPDATE: Dec 08 2010...............................................................................

After a long period of hoping the soft cast would help heal Tom, we are faced with the reality that it did not work. Tom is getting around OK but the ankle joint is non functional and causes him pain still. After talking with a couple Vets, it has been decided that Tom's leg needs to be amputated. 3 legged cats live wonderful lives and this way Tom will not live in pain after he has healed up.

UPDATE: Oct 28 2010...............................................................................

Tom, one of our senior cats who has been up for adoption for some time had a freak accident today. Tom -vs- kennel. He is in a soft cast for a while, and he really needs everyone's good thoughts right now. We are hoping for a good recovery but only time will tell.

Tom is a loving cat, but can be a grumpy old man sometimes and he is the one who chooses when it is loving time. Tom would like a quiet home where he can live and be loved and maybe watch some TV.

BIO..............................................................................................................

Hi my name is Tom. I am a nice adult cat looking for a new home. I had a nice home that I had to leave because my person got to sick to take care of me. I am a really good boy who would like to have a new friend. If you are like me and feeling a little lonely, please stop by CASA and say HI. I would love to meet you sometime :)

I am probably best suited in a home with no other male cats so I will be happy =)
